Soho Parish Primary

Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage at Soho Parish is the Reception (Foundation) class. The age range of the children is 4 – 5.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Principles of treating each child as a unique child, offering them positive relationships within enabling environments to provide for their learning and development.

The Curriculum is set out in 3 Prime Areas:

  • - Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • - Communication and Language
  • - Physical Development

All of these areas of development are delivered both inside and outside, as we use both classroom and playground for learning.  In the afternoons, and during some morning sessions, foundation class have the sole use of the playground.
We provide a range of activities to engage the children in their learning and make sure that the Interactive number displayactivities are suited to the stage of development that each child is at. We constantly observe the children in their play, so that we can plan activities that will extend and challenge their thinking and understanding.

We work in partnership with parents to enable children to settle quickly and easily into school. We do this by conducting home visits and inviting the children to the classroom before they start school to familiarise themselves with the adults who will be looking after them.
