Context To Our Values

Soho Parish Church of England Primary School Values

Love – Imagination – Courage – Individuality – Community

Our values are underpinned by the words of Jesus and the teachings of the Old and New Testaments.

Love

Matthew 20: 29-34:  The compassion of Jesus leads to two blind men regaining their sight.

God’s love for all his children should be evident in every interaction we have at Soho Parish.  When relationships are damaged, we rebuild them.  Love drives us to strive passionately for success for our pupils, staff and families.

1 Corinthians 13: Love is patient, kind, slow to anger, doesn’t keep a record of wrongs

Colossians 3: 13-14: Forgive as the Lord forgives you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity

Imagination

Going a little farther, He fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from Him. “Abba, Father,” He said, “everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.” (Mark 14:34-36, NIV)

Jesus tells us anything is possible for God.  Belief helps us to put faith in Him and imagine every possibility.  We don’t put ceilings on our potential and we think outside and beyond the box!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28, NIV)

Courage

Luke 1: 26- 38 Mary moves from fear at the sight of an angel and the news he brings to accepting a huge & exciting responsibility.

We put our faith and trust in God.  We grow and learn through struggle, determination and resilience.  We do the right thing because it is right, not because it is easy.

Deuteronomy 31:8 God will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Individuality

1 Samuel 16: To everyone’s surprise it was the smallest of Jesse’s children who God chose for the prophet Samuel to anoint as King, David a shepherd boy.

God made each of us and Jesus told us we are to shine like lights in the World.  Our individuality is what makes us so valuable to our community.  We must strive for success for ourselves so that we can do our best for others.

Psalm 139: 13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Romans 12: 6: we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us.

Community

Acts 2: 43-47 The church grows through the people sharing and working together.

This ‘final’ value holds all the others together.  We grow in God’s love, believing anything is possible and being courageous in our learning and faith, so that we can share our light and, therefore, serve our school and wider community.  This is how we follow in Jesus’ footsteps at Soho Parish.

1 Corinthians 12: 26 If one member of the community suffers, all suffer together with it, if one is honoured all are honoured.

Romans 12: 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.

British Values

We believe the government’s British Values complement our own very well, and all are regularly referenced through our scheme of work, assemblies and behaviour strategies.
