At Soho Parish Primary School, we treat others with respect, kindness and consideration in accordance with the 2010 Equality Act.

We do not discriminate against anyone because of:

  • Age;
  • Disability;
  • Gender reassignment;
  • Marriage and civil partnership;
  • Pregnancy and maternity;
  • Race;
  • Religion or belief;
  • Sex;
  • Sexual orientation

(Protected Characteristics, The Equality Act, 2010)

We respect and protect the rights of all individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all.

In recent years, we have worked with Educate and Celebrate to achieve the LGBT+ Friendly Schools Award. Here are some of things we have done in the past to celebrate and learn about the LGBT+ community and its history.

In class we have read books that explore the importance of diversity and celebrating difference.   Thanks to Educate and Celebrate, every class now has a diverse library of books that explore the theme of LGBT+. Below are some of our favourites. On this page, you can also find an Educate and Celebrate book list with some wonderful suggestions for LGBT+ themed books for all ages. Check out our You Tube channel to hear our Y2 teacher Rosie reading some of her favourites from the list.

In February, to celebrate LGBT+ History Month we hold a 'Bake the Rainbow' cake completion and bake sale. The children and staff at school baked gloriously rainbow cakes and sell them to raise money for an LGBT charity.

In June, we acknowledge Pride Month with a digital assembly about the history of Pride. We also dress up at home in as many colours as we could, inspired by the Pride flag. To raise awareness through our social media pages.
